The Downs, SW20

This bespoke bathroom design harmoniously blends soft, neutral tones with intelligent storage solutions, transforming a windowless space into a tranquil and functional retreat. With no natural light available, careful attention was paid to every element—from tile finishes and lighting to layout and colour palette—to ensure the room felt calm, inviting, and well-balanced. The result is a sophisticated wetroom that prioritises both beauty and practicality, providing the perfect blend of modern elegance and everyday convenience.

The details...

Designed with everyday practicality in mind, this bathroom makes the most of its compact footprint and lack of natural light through clever planning and premium finishes. The walk-in wetroom area features a gentle gradient for easy water flow, with a Bandwood tiled feature wall providing warmth and texture. Matching wall and floor tiling in City Plaster Beige—used in both gloss and matt finishes—creates a sense of visual harmony and enhances the brightness of the space.

Storage was a key consideration. Gloss cashmere furniture is used throughout, including a built-in vanity unit topped with a matching worktop that seamlessly connects to the wall tiles. A tall, full-height unit offers additional storage for towels and everyday items, while a stacked washer and dryer sit hidden behind bi-fold doors. A pull-out basket shelf adds to the functionality, offering a practical yet discreet laundry solution.

Style

The overall aesthetic is one of refined simplicity. The soft, neutral palette of beiges and cashmere tones helps to bounce light around the room, making it feel more open and airy despite the absence of windows. The combination of wood-effect and stone-inspired tiles adds texture and contrast without overwhelming the space, while the high-gloss cabinetry brings a subtle sense of luxury.

a word from our designer...

“Designing a bathroom with no natural light always presents a challenge, but it also creates an opportunity to control the mood entirely through materials and lighting. The client wanted a space that felt fresh and open, with room for a concealed laundry area that wouldn’t dominate the design. By layering soft tones, reflective surfaces, and warm feature textures, we were able to achieve a calm, balanced look that still meets the practical demands of everyday life.”
